Berkshire Bird Sanctuary continues to rebuild its safe haven for animals in need

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 10:33:47 GMT

PETERSBURGH, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Berkshire Bird Sanctuary has been around for over 50 years and has saved thousands of animals. Peter Dubacher started the sanctuary with his father after serving as a Vietnam War soldier. He says that creating the sanctuary helped him while he struggled with PTSD after the war.“One of the things that really helped me was to be around animals,” he said. “And back in that time, it was during the Vietnam War… There were a lot of soldiers that came back and had different problems.”But he says the sanctuary helped him refocus his energy on helping wildlife. The organization has saved thousands of animals from around the country and beyond. In 2009, the sanctuary was able to save an eagle who lost his wing during the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill. And he continues to get calls about animals needing a safe haven.“I’m a firm believer that every life is precious,” he said. Kurtenbach: There’s bad luck, then there’s Oakland luck — five more thoughts on the A’s relocation farce

I can continue to point out that A’s owner John Fisher is a soulless ghoul or that team president Dave Kaval is a charlatan, but, let’s be honest, it’s becoming reductive. There is plenty of blame to go around, after all.The A’s will move to Las Vegas (at some point) primarily because of those two mountebanks, but systems and people also enabled them. Those two weren’t clever enough to make this happen on their own. This by no means exonerates them, but when the A’s leave Oakland — and that day can’t come soon enough — there will be green blood on more hands than just Fisher and Kaval’s.Related ArticlesOakland Athletics | SF Giants issue statement on A’s, and a former Athletic talks Coliseum: ‘I loved every aspect of it’ Oakland Athletics | How much do the A’s matter to Oakland’s identity? Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 10:33:47 GMT

LONDON (AP) — Three goals for Riyad Mahrez have protected Manchester City’s bid for three trophies. The Algerian forward’s hat trick in a 3-0 win against Sheffield United on Saturday advanced City to the FA Cup final. Having secured a place in the semifinals of the Champions League this week, Pep Guardiola’s team took another step toward a treble with a routine victory at Wembley Stadium. The FA Cup final in June will be against Manchester United or Brighton. City can also seize control of the English Premier League title race against leader Arsenal on Wednesday. In City’s current mood, it is difficult to see anyone stopping the defending league champion from emulating Manchester United’s 1999 treble of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup glory.Certainly not second-division side Sheffield, whose chance of an historic FA Cup shock was effectively ended in the 43rd minute when Mahrez struck from the penalty spot after Daniel Jebbison fouled Bernard...
