After two hikers died on Mt. Baldy this year, and another 15 were injured or lost, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is calling on legislators to help come up with ways to help keep hiking enthusiasts safe.  Upland residents Janelle and Joey Rasich hike the Mt. Baldy trails at least once a week with their two dogs. Just a 20-minute drive from their home, Joey said it’s an easily accessible way to get into nature and the picturesque landscape. This past December, though, the couple learned just how dangerous the terrain can be, especially after the snow melts.  “We got stuck at an area that got very icy. We called for help and a helicopter came and picked us up,” Janelle Rasich said.  It was just last winter when Joey Rasich says he slid an estimated 20 to 30 feet down the mountain and before he knew it, they required rescue. The incident demonstrated the peril of hiking in the often-precarious area, which can be dangerous for anyone.  Deputy Chief of...

But going out of town can be easier said than done when you have a four-legged friend at home — even if that friend isn’t a dog.“Cats are creatures of habit. We have all heard that saying, and it is so true,” said Dr. Laura Mosoriak with the Kingstowne Cat Clinic in Alexandria, Virginia.Mosoriak owns the clinic, which has been around since the early 1990s, and has a loyal customer base in the Northern Virginia area. The longtime veterinarian told WTOP that, in her opinion, a licensed and insured sitter is a pet owner’s best option while leaving their cats at home.“I prefer pet sitters to come to the house,” Mosoriak said. “They usually have more skills in being able to recognize when something is wrong.”Kingstowne Cat Clinic’s resident cat is 2-year-old Mike. He was rescued as a kitten, and had an infection that cost him one of his eyes. He loves treats, and provides stress relief to everyone in the prac...

He had his first Tommy John surgery in 2015, just after the Dodgers selected him in the first round of the MLB draft.“It was good to get out there,” Buehler said of his outing at the Dodgers’ nearby Camelback Ranch facility, where the team holds spring training. “It was fine. Never going to be perfect the first time out there. Made some good pitches, and some bad ones.”Dodgers manager Dave Roberts liked what he saw.“It went really well. Much better than I expected. He used his entire pitch mix,” Roberts said before the game against the Diamondbacks. “Everything looked crisp. It was encouraging. (His fastball) was 92 to 93 mph, the cutter was 90, so the velocity was better than I expected.”Buehler’s 2022 sea...
