OAKLAND – Some Oakland A’s fans are not surprised that owner John Fisher has no intention of selling the MLB franchise but are highly skeptical of his claims he’ll make the necessary investments to help the team become championship-caliber after its proposed move to Las Vegas.“I don’t believe anything (Fisher) says,” said Lynda Seaver, 65, of Danville, who has been coming to the Coliseum since the A’s arrived in 1968. “He’s been lying to us for I don’t know how many years now. Why should we trust him now?”“Absolutely not,” said Ted Trautman, 39, of Oakland. “He’s a cheapskate.”Several of the announced 5,075 fans in attendance for Wednesday’s A’s-Royals game at the Coliseum at times kept up the “Sell the team” chant that began earlier this season and has also permeated other MLB ballparks, notably in San Francisco and Los Angeles when Oakland was the visiting team. But Fisher, in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal published Wednesday, said he has no...

PHILADELPHIA — How’s that for an introduction? His signing only made official hours before first pitch Wednesday, the Giants’ newly inked shortstop, Paul DeJong, just might have a statue outside Oracle Park by the time the Giants’ charter flight touches back down in the Bay Area this evening. After Camilo Doval blew his second save in as many days, DeJong delivered a two-RBI knock in the top of the 10th, saving the day and salvaging an 8-6 win in the finale of San Francisco’s series against the wild card-leading Phillies. It was DeJong’s third hit of game to go with a two-run homer that, for much of the afternoon, looked to be decisive.Just moments earlier, Doval plodded back to the dugout, down the steps and into the clubhouse as Jakob Junis jogged across the outfield grass and the 33,035 on hand erupted into pandemonium, watching their team erase a deficit for the third time in as many games this series. After taking heat for solely relying on his heater...

And that bothers me.“I don’t want to fib to people (about my future), but I also don’t want the last six weeks to be about me. The focus has to be on the players.”One Tuesday, Francona inadvertently made himself the focal point of the Guardians’ final 36 games by hinting that he would step down as manager. It made his routine pregame availabilit...
