GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado police officer on trial for putting a handcuffed woman in a parked police vehicle that was hit by a freight train testified Tuesday that she did not realize the officer who had arrived before her had parked it on the tracks. After racing to the scene, Officer Jordan Steinke said, she quickly parked her patrol vehicle behind the other one and got out because it was the quickest way “to get a gun in the fight” — hers. She explained that she was suprised the other officer was still sitting in his vehicle. Steinke also said she did not notice the tracks or the ground when she squatted down to arrest a kneeling Yareni Rios-Gonzalez after the suspect was ordered out of her pickup truck. The tracks and railroad crossing signs can be seen in her body camera video from the Sept. 16, 2022, incident. When pressed by Deputy District Attorney Christopher Jewkes, Steinke replied “I am sure I saw the tracks sir, but I did not perceive them.” She explained that she w...Chinese and Russian officials to join North Korean commemorations of Korean War armistice

CHICAGO (AP) — With the Chicago White Sox moving toward a sell-off at next week’s trade deadline, manager Pedro Grifol is taking the blame for the team’s disappointing performance.Grifol struck an optimistic tone after he was hired in November, but it hasn’t worked out very well in his first season as a major league skipper. After winning the AL Central in 2021 and going 81-81 last year, the White Sox had a 41-60 record heading into Tuesday night’s game against the crosstown Cubs.“I’m disappointed. This is on me. It’s simple,” Grifol said. “I sat there and I told everybody that we have high expectations here and I was going to lead us to where we want to go. And it’s not happening. I’m disappointed, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to quit, that I’m going to stop working.”Injuries have played a role in the team’s lackluster play, but that’s just one aspect of a myriad of issues for the club. Heading into Tuesday’s games, the White Sox ran...El Inter Miami vs. Atlanta United: Messi será titular y capitán

(AP) — Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo — whose availability because of an injured left foot was unknown until this past weekend — will not have any restrictions when Las Vegas opens training camp Wednesday.Garoppolo was cleared Sunday to practice after missing organized team activities and minicamp because of the injury he suffered last season when he was with the San Francisco 49ers. The Raiders signed him to a three-year, $72.75 million free-agent contract on March 17.McDaniels said that although Garoppolo wouldn’t have any restrictions, he also wouldn’t be expected to take all the first-team snaps the moment camp opens.“But we would never do that with anybody,” McDaniels said Tuesday. “There are a number of players obviously that had things in the spring, and (we’re) making sure that we’re just smart about how we re-integrate them to the totality of practice. DENVER (KDVR) — Many outdoor jobs are seeing the impact of Colorado’s extreme heat. FOX31 learned how Denver crews are pushing through the high temperatures to pave.On Dakota Avenue, with temperatures on Tuesday hitting 94 degrees, the pavement was being crushed and thrown into trucks.“This is our prime construction season,” Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) Director Nancy Kuhn said. “This is the time that we can get out, get a lot of work done really fast, and then we have the environment to contend with.”Crews are dealing with heat from above and below with a mission of improving hundreds of lane miles in the city. Could a cooler July mean a better season for the Rockies? “Working next to this pavement is very hot, so not only are they working with hot equipment, but hot pavement as well, hot asphalt,” Kuhn said. "So they really are exposed to a lot of heat and so they really need to be careful.”In June, DOTI began sharing information with employees a...Sweltering temperatures have air condition technicians swamped
