Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 11:33:09 GMT

Someone at Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance may have forgotten it's mid-September.A Reddit user captured a photo of a decorated Christmas tree at least 15 feet tall and lit garland in the shopping center on Sept. 14. For the record, that's 102 days before Christmas, 70 days before Thanksgiving and 47 days before Halloween.U/CocoLoco1, who posted the pic to the r/LosAngeles subreddit, dubbed the premature celebration "insanity," adding "My wife and I were aghast." That notion that was echoed by dozens of commenters."This is the nightmare before Halloween," wrote u/tryAngularFish."Even for Halloween decorations this is too early," added u/ImStuckInYourToilet.However, u/JackInTheBell may have captured popular sentiment most succinctly with a reference to the smash-and-grab robberies, fights and flash mob robberies of recent months."Was expecting another story about a shoplifting mob," they wrote. "This is worse…"

A pair of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents have been accused of stealing money from passengers at Miami International Airport after video emerged of the two appearing to rummage through luggage at a security checkpoint. Video shows Josue Gonzalez and Labarrius Williams picking through bags on a conveyor belt on June 29 as passengers take their electronic devices out of their bags, take off their shoes and remove their belts.  Distraction thefts targeting unsuspecting SoCal shoppers In the beginning of the released video, Williams is seen discreetly rummaging through a pocket of a passenger’s backpack and calmly pocket what he stole as he stepped away to assist others going through the checkpoint. A short time later, Gonzalez is also seen sneakily picking through a backpack and eventually places what he stole – presumably money – into his pants pocket. Both men were taken into custody on July 6. Don’t look now, but Joshua Redman’s jazz career is evolving

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 11:33:09 GMT

There’s an early moment on Joshua Redman’s new album “where are we” that seems to open up a quietly astonishing landscape where the Berkeley saxophonist has never ventured before. The release is his first collaboration with a vocalist — captivating newcomer Gabrielle Cavassa — and his debut album on his new label, the storied Blue Note Records. If the lack of capitals in the concept album’s title feels like a feint at modesty, the project’s scope speaks to Redman’s ambition. Formatted like a double LP, “where we are” takes an emotional X-ray of the nation via an expansive reimagining of the American Songbook, city by city. The song that first seizes the imagination is a mashup of “Going to Chicago Blues,” the swaggering Count Basie staple for vocalist and co-writer Jimmy Rushing and (decades later) Joe Williams, with an interpolated motif from Sufjan Stevens’ “Chicago.” The album features a superlative cast with pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Joe Sanders, drummer Brian Blade...

Shaquille Leonard’s return from injury gives the Colts’ defense a jolt of energy

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 11:33:09 GMT

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — When Indianapolis Colts linebacker Shaquille Leonard woke up Monday morning, he was overjoyed.Sure, he had the expected soreness from playing his first full game since early November. He just didn’t need any additional medical treatments or trainers or doctors to examine his bruised body or experience a trip back to the injury report. Instead, what the postgame wake-up call proved to the three-time All-Pro was that he could finally play football his way — again.“It was a good sore,” Leonard said. “It (the game) was most definitely satisfying, just after everything I’ve been through to be able to get back out there again, play the game I love. It definitely was satisfying to go back out there and compete with the guys.”Critics questioned whether Leonard could ever fully recover from two injury-plagued seasons and the excruciating pain in his left leg. In his darker moments, perhaps even Leonard may admit he also questioned whether he’d ever reemer...

History suggests 0-2 start is too difficult to overcome in the NFL

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 11:33:09 GMT

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Two losses in five days already puts the Minnesota Vikings in a big hole that’s been difficult for NFL teams to overcome.Since 1990, only 31 of the 270 clubs (11.5%) that began a season 0-2 advanced to the playoffs. The Cincinnati Bengals recovered from losing their first two defeats last season to finish 12-4 and reached the AFC championship game. The Vikings have to buck the losing trend after another sloppy effort in a 34-28 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night. They had four costly fumbles, including Justin Jefferson losing the ball out of bounds in the end zone. That followed up a mistake-filled 20-17 loss at home to Tampa Bay in Week 1.“Shot ourselves in the foot with the turnovers,” quarterback Kirk Cousins said. “Similar story now the first two weeks in that case. … Just difficult to win in this league when you lose the turnover battle by one, let alone by the margin we have lost it by, so we have to fix those mistakes and not let it con...
