PHOTOS: Tropical Storm Hilary moves through San Diego SAN DIEGO -- Tropical Storm Hilary pummeled Southern California with heavy rainfall and gusty winds on Sunday, making history as the first storm of its kind to hit the region in decades.The storm, which had downgraded from a Category 4 hurricane about 24 hours before making landfall along Baja California's coast, brought on a steady downpour that caused extensive flooding, power outages, downed trees and mudslides.The unusual storm marked California's first tropical storm to hit in 84 years. Only a handful of storms have managed to bring tropical storm-force winds to the Golden State in the last century.Hilary's center hit San Diego County around 5 p.m. before continuing northeast towards the inland empire in Riverside County. The S&P 500 was up 0.3% in early trading Monday, coming off its third losing week in a row. The Dow rose 21 points and the Nasdaq composite was up 0.4%. This Sunday, you’ll be able to catch up for $4 a ticket in movie theaters nationwide. Theater owners announced Monday that the second annual National Cinema Day will be held Sunday, Aug. 27. For one day, all movies — in all formats and at all showtimes — will be $4 at participating theaters. More than 3,000 theaters are participating, which accounts for most of the cinemas in the U.S., including the leading chains AMC and Regal. It’s the second straight year theaters are trotting out the one-day event at the tail end of summer. Lanes of I-35 northbound at 290 East reopen after deadly crash AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Some lanes of Interstate 35 northbound near Highway 290 have reopened after all lanes were closed due to a fatal crash early Monday morning. I-35 northbound was shut down at exit 238B after a person was hit and killed by a vehicle in the area, according to the Austin Police Department. APD said one vehicle involved stopped and stayed at the scene but it's unclear if that was the only vehicle involved. Some lanes of the interstate reopened around 8:30 a.m., but drivers should still expect delays in the area and choose alternate routes if possible.
